President Donald Trump warned of new tariff hikes on Indian imports if New Delhi does not comply with Washington’s demands to cut purchases of Russian oil.

Trump said the United States could move “very quickly” to raise duties, noting that India’s continued buying of Russian oil has fueled his dissatisfaction and heightened trade tensions between the two countries.

The escalation comes as trade relations between Washington and New Delhi face growing pressure, following earlier U.S.

decisions to raise tariffs on Indian imports in an effort to penalize India for its purchases of Russian oil despite Western sanctions on Moscow.

Despite these measures, trade data show that Indian exports to the United States have continued to rise, underscoring the complexity of bilateral trade relations.
